Should Ghanaian Artistes boycott One Africa Music Fest ?

A video sighted by has a female U. S citizen with both Ghanaian and Nigerian descent lamenting on the disrespectful and horrible manner the organisers of this year’s One African Concert showed to Ghanaian legendary musician Prince Bright of BukBak fame.

The One African Concert this year was held in Brooklyn in the United  States of America on Saturday 10th August, 2019 . According to the lady in the video, there was no Ghanaian artiste on the bill initially this year except for the late invitation handed to Prince Bright as the only Ghanaian to perform.

To the amazement of fans, Prince Bright was not going to be allowed to perform after he got an email confirmation to perform earlier, Prince Sparkle had to stand on his feet for hours after he was denied entry to perform at the concert until he was finally allowed to enter the arena as a spectator, after a long travel to be on time for the concert.

The devastated lady in the video laid the credentials and the stuff Prince Bright is made of and could not fathom why one of the pioneers of the Afro-beat movement in Africa could be treated like a thrash by organisers of this year’s concert and at the same time advertise some African artistes who could not perform to promote the event.

Two years ago at this same concert, Ghana Rapper Sarkodie did not perform at the One Africa Music Festival held on 16th November,2017 in Dubai. Report had it that, Sarkodie was told that he would perform after Tiwa Savage, only to see Wizkid join Tiwa on stage when it had not been announced he was the next act to mount thestage. The organisers then informed Sarkodie he would performafter Tekno. But again, Davido also joined Tekno on stageunannounced.

The host, Banky W, mentioned that Sarkodie was coming up next, just to have been told again that Davido was coming on stage. A clear case of sabotage and disrespect to the Ghanaian who flew to Dubai  with his team for the concert, attended pre-event party and did sound check but did not perform on the night. In a tweet he wrote: “Sorry to fans in Dubai but I’m not performing… hopefully I make it next time.”

One Africa Music Fest is an Afrobeats concert that aims to showcase the biggest and brightest African musical artists. It is organised by Upfront and Personal Global Management.

Some Ghanaian Entertainment critics have condemned organizers of the event for such unfair treatment to Prince Bright demanding an apology from them .  Others have also suggested Ghanaian Artistes boycott the One Africa Music Fest going forward.
