Gaming commision bans celebrities from endorsing betting companies

The Gaming Commission of Ghana has banned the use of celebrities for advertisement and endorsements for betting companies.

In a new guideline issued, the Gaming commission of Ghana explained among others that the decision taken is due to the growing increasing number of celebrities endorsing betting companies, a move many feel could lure young fans into gambling since it’s very addictive.

A portion of the statement reads “Operators shall not use celebrities in their advertisements to entice the general public to gamble,” thus companies cannot encourage people to bet using these individuals with huge social media following.

The likes of Nadia Buari, Wendy Shay, Efya, Jackie Appiah, Moesha Boduong, Salma Mumin, Selly Gally, Zynell Zuh, Sandra Ankobiah, Lilwin, DKB, KiDi and many others were all signed as earlier this year as ambassadors for a betting company in Ghana.
