The Ghana Armed Forces stormed Ashaiman Tuesday, March 7, 2023 for an operation swoop. In the course of their operation, the uniformed men and women brutalized some resident of Ashaiman, a suburb of Accra since midnight.
This comes days after their colleague was allegedly stabbed to death by unknown assailants in the area.
Many Ghanaians have condemned their actions and also called on the appropriate quarters to deal with the personnels involved.
But a press statement has been released this morning by the Ghana Armed Forces. The
Ghana Armed Forces stated categorically that the military operation was sanctioned by the Military High Command.
According to them, the operation was NOT to avenge the killing of the soldier but rather to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime. Also, they indicated that following the operations at Ashaiman-Taifa and Tulaku, the military personnel picked up some persons. About 184 suspects aged between 21 and 47 years old. And handed them over to the Military Police. Subsequently, they will be sent to the Ghana Police Service for screening and for further action.
GAF further revealed that, in the course of the swoop, the personnel seized 29 slabs and 57 mini slabs of suspected indian hemp and amnesia. Also, they found other forms of the narcotics as well.
