IGP leaked tape: COP Mensah, Supt Asare, Gyebi interdicted

The Ghana Police Service has interdicted Superintendents George Asare and Emmanuel Gyebi. Their interdiction follows their alleged involvement in a leaked tape plotting the removal of the IGP, Dr George Akuffo Dampare.

In a related development, the Director of Operations, COP George Alex Mensah, has also been interdicted with immediate effect.

He has been instructed to hand over his weapons, uniforms, and other police belongings to Depol Logistics.

COP Mensah accused Dr Dampare, of mismanaging the Police Service, adding that he is the worst IGP in the history of Ghana.

To him, COP Mensah would have been a better IGP than Dr Dampare. So he suggested him to Bugri Naabu.

Their interdiction is to make way for disciplinary proceedings into their conduct in line with Police Service regulations.

However, close source gathers that the interdiction was communicated to them on Wednesday, 6 September 2023.

An ad hoc committee of Parliament is investigating COP George Alex Mensah and two others, Superintendent George Asare and the former Northern regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Daniel Bugri Naabu – over the leaked tape.

The trio allegedly had a discussion in Naabu’s office in Osu to hatch a plot to remove IGP Dampare.
