It’s frustrating doing music in Ghana – BoyDoe

His wish was to successfully launch his music career in Ghana after staying in the United States for a decade but things have not gone the way rapper BoyDoe real name Stephen Johnson had anticipated.

According to him, it has not been as easy as he thought it would be. “I have been around for almost a year and it is not easy getting my songs out there. First of all, radio presenters want to take money from you before they play your songs.

“I have approached many musicians I know and thought would accept to work with me but they declined. It is only Yaa Pono who agreed to work with me,” he told Graphic Showbiz.

BoyDoe said an artiste who didn’t have a strong management team to push their songs can forget about making it in Ghana.

“You need to have a strong management team to do most of the work for you. Promoting your songs, shooting music videos requires a huge budget and a good management team will take care of that,” he said.

According to BoyDoe, he was a member of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) before moving to the US and yet his musician friends in Ghana still complain about royalties.

“I know royalties do not work properly in Ghana because musicians complain in Ghana and that is something we should really look at. Even the musicians who earn their royalties cannot boast of it because it is peanuts,” he stated.

BoyDoe is currently promoting his singles Balotelli and I’m Blessed. He thanks God for his life and encourages the youth to work hard on I’m Blessed. He says on the song that he will always triumps over his enemies because he serves a living God.

On Balotelli, BoyDoe tells his friends to pay back whatever they owe him or else he will go Balotelli (wild) on them.

Apart from being a musician, BoyDoe, who has other songs such as Doe Game, Dopeman, Man of the Moment, They Be Hating and Big Booty Chick (BBC), is a professional chef.
