Ghanaian comedian, Emmanuel Nkansah Ansong popularly known as Lekzy Decomic has stated that mainstream media in Ghana have sidelined comedy.
Speaking in an interview with Sammy Kay on the Go online show, the comedian explained that there hasn’t been a deliberate effort from Entertainment discussion shows in the Ghanaian media to project comedy.
According to him, it is only when he has a show or project that he gets invited by a media house. He described this phenomenon as discouraging.
Lekzy however indicated that the media spaces and entertainment shows have been narrowed to only music and its players. He said, producers of this entertainment shows hardly bring on-board comedy related issues for discussion. This is because, they don’t see the comedy as news worthy.
But, Lekzy Decomic making his point said several Ghanaian comedians in recent times have filled auditoriums. Yet, some musicians can’t even fill smaller space for their shows.
Hence, with little support from coperate Ghana, the media houses and Ghanaians in general, in five years time Ghanaian comedians would fill the O2 arena.
Undoubtedly, Lekzy Decomic is one of Ghana’s top comedians of our time. He is set to host another blockbuster comedy show dubbed “CAN PAIN MESSage” at the National Theatre on 30th September, 2023.
