The Electoral Commission closed down a registration center after gun-wielding men stormed a registration center on Monday at the Kasoa Peace Town Top Hill Down polling station.
Minister for Special Development Initiatives and MP for the Awutu Senya East, Mavis Hawa Koomson, in an interview has admitted she fired a gun at a voters registration centre in her constituency.
The Minister said she went to the place because she got hint of her opponent bussing people from other places to the registration centre at dawn.
She stated …. “None of my men had guns on them when we got to the centre. I fired the shots myself,” and added that the gunshot she fired was a way of protecting herself at the registration centre since her police escort had not started working that day hence, that was a mechanism she adopted in the absence of her police escort.
Armed men of the MP numbering about 15 arrived at the registration centre around 8 am and tried to sack some prospective voters.
Meanwhile the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Awutu Senya East Naa Koryoo Okunor accused the sitting MP of being the mastermind of the mishaps and chaos at the registration center.
